The rhythm of Korean music is called as Jangdan is similar across all the subtypes of Korean music. On the basis of the regions Korean folk music is classified into Dongbu, Namdo and Jeju. Pansori was evolved from Namdo music. It involves a singer and a drummer who usually sing one out of 5 stories. Pak Tongjin is a famous Pansori singer. Sanjo is also evolved from Namdo music. It’s a purely instrumental form of folk music and instruments used are changgo, gayageum, ajaeng etc. Famous instrumentalists include Kim Chukpa, Hwang Byungki, and Yi Saenggang. Another style is the Nongak which is a form of rural percussion music. It usually involves a group of 20 to 30 artists. Samul nori is a famous Nongak band.
